Washing Machine Parts and Its Functions

Appliances have become increasingly advanced nowadays. The parts used are of the latest technology. You should be able to identify some of these parts to handle any minor problems you might face while using a washing machine.

Let’s take a look at the parts and their functions of a washing machine to see how they work together.

Washing Machine Parts and Functions

Agitator:

The agitator is located inside the tub of the washing machine. To remove the dirt from your clothes, they need to be agitated in soapy water. It is the part that performs the cleaning cycle in the washer.

During the cleaning cycle, it rotates continuously due to which your clothes also rotate. It helps to remove the dirt from your clothes.

Drain Pipe:

Once the cleaning cycle is completed, the soapy detergent water needs to be drained. Here the drain pipes come into play and do what it’s made for. It helps remove the water away.

Motor:

Modern washers use advanced motors. It helps the agitator produce the rotation it needs to remove the dirt from clothes. The rotation speed can be changed or determined by the setting you choose before starting a laundry.

Printed Circuit Board (PCB):

All the electrical components and circuits are found on the printed circuit board or PCB. It is the motherboard of a washing machine. While you select the setting of a cleaning cycle to wash, the PCB receives the information and sends it to various parts to perform.

Programmer:

The programmer can be found on the outside of the washing machine. It will let you decide the water level, temperature, and the type of cleaning cycle you want to perform.

You will also be choosing how long the cleaning cycle will last, water valve type, and thermostat as well.

Tub:

There are two types of tubs in the washing machine – an inner and an outer tub. The inner tub is where you load the clothes to be washed, rinsed, and dried. The outer tub supports the inner tub during the cleaning cycle.

Water Inlet Control Valve:

When you put clothes into the washer, the valve gets opened automatically and fills up the inner tub of the machine. The water level is determined by the setting you choose while starting a new program. It is also called the solenoid valve.

Water Pump:

The water pump circulates the water through the washing machine during the cleaning cycle. It recirculates the water during the wash cycle and drains the water during the spin cycle. This is what the water pump does.

Timer:

The timer can be used in both manual and automatic mode. You can set the timer by yourself while washing manually. Also, in the automatic mode, the time is set automatically depending on how many laundries you have loaded and the type of wash cycle.

Detergent Dispenser:

Detergent Dispenser is a tray where we put detergent as per our requirement before we start the cleaning process. Some washing machines can hold extra detergent into the dispenser.

And it uses the required amount of detergent automatically depending on the laundry, and the remaining is kept in the dispenser.

Water Inlet Hose:

In most of the modern washing machines, water is supplied through this inlet hose from the inlet tap to the washing machine. The hose that comes with a washer has a length of 1.5 – 2 meters.

In case the water tap is not nearby your machine, then you can buy 2.5 – 5 meters hose separately.

Drain Hose:

The drain hose drains the water after every cleaning cycle. The length of this drain hose is shorter than the water inlet hose. If you need a longer hose, then you must buy it separately from the market.

Conclusion

The parts and their functions we discussed above should be helpful if you are having any trouble with your washing machine. Also, it will help you choose a better washer when you plan to buy a new one.
