Vacuuming Mistakes to Avoid

Vacuuming your home leaves it looking elegant and healthy.

A perfect vacuuming requires a good vacuum cleaner as well as the correct methodology of using it.

You would not want to waste your painstaking vacuuming efforts to yield anything less than exceptional cleanliness.

Let’s discuss some of the common vacuuming mistakes which if avoided can deliver immense physical and psychological benefits.

Common Vacuuming Mistakes to Avoid

Vacuuming in a linear direction

We tend to vacuum the carpets, beds, sofas, floor, or other surfaces in only one linear direction. It comes very naturally to us as we grew up with our traditional way of cleaning by swaying brooms in a linear fashion.

However, cleaning with vacuum cleaners only in one direction does not completely clean the dirt and dust from the surfaces.

The suction pressure for collecting dust, dirt, and debris when applied in a linear direction does not completely remove the garbage.

To completely collect the dirt and dust from the surfaces during vacuuming, we need to use it in both directions. It removes the dust and allergens for comprehensive cleaning experience.

Not replacing or cleaning the bags

The vacuum cleaners comprise either bag or canister for collecting the accumulated dust, dirt, and garbage.

Once these bags or canister becomes half-full, you need to empty them completely so that the vacuum cleaner can keep operating efficiently.

However, we commit the mistake of not replacing or cleaning the bags or canisters periodically which hampers the vacuuming efficiency of the appliance.

It is important to understand that we should not wait for the bags or canisters to become full and need to empty them before reaching the maximum capacity.

When the bag or canister becomes full, it makes the appliance very heavy and it needs to exert maximum suction power for cleaning which deteriorates its performance.

Before you begin vacuuming, it’s recommended to check the bag or canister and empty it, if they are half-full.

Not cleaning the dirty filters

The filters perform a very important task of cleaning the air. It captures the minutest dust, debris, germs, and allergens and avoids their releasing back into the surroundings.

With regular usage, the filters accumulate dust and get dirty over time. The dirty filter releases poor quality air. It also runs the risk of getting clogged and thereby hampers the efficiency of vacuuming.

We need to check for the dirty filters and clean them regularly so that it keeps emitting the clean, purified, and healthy air.

Not using proper attachments

A vacuum cleaner comes with various accessories or attachments for carrying out specific cleaning tasks.

The crevice and dust brushes are designed for picking up the dust from the flat floor surfaces.

Similarly, there is a host of other accessories like the Upholstery tool, Dust brush, bare floor brush, mini-turbo, etc; that are meant for cleaning hard to reach surfaces like upholstery, lampshades, blinds or baseboards.

Using proper tools or accessories for cleaning the specific area yields optimal cleaning results.

However, if you try to clean the difficult areas without using any accessories, you may end up with below par cleaning performance.

Vacuuming at fast speed

In our fast-paced world, we often have very little time left with us for cleaning activities. However, we simply can’t run the vacuum cleaner quickly over the surfaces for getting over the cleanliness drive.

We need to inculcate cleaning as an essential part of our daily routine and manage our time efficiently to have sufficient time available for vacuuming at the desired pace.

Too quick vacuuming would not remove the dust and allergens completely from the surfaces. It requires slow maneuvering to suck up dirt and dust for deep cleaning of rugs and carpets.

Vacuuming at an improper height

When you vacuum at too long or too short height, you may not able to do proper vacuuming. Thus, adjusting the proper height of your vacuum assumes vital significance for effortless cleaning.

As per the surface of cleaning areas, make proper height adjustments so that you easily clean even difficult to reach areas like under the table or baseboards, edges of the tables or cabinets, etc.

You may buy various height adjustment accessories that may increase or shorten the vacuum cleaner height for reaching far away or enclosed spaces.

Not vacuuming at regular intervals

You must have a proper vacuuming schedule and you should stick to it for imparting ever-lasting cleanliness to your home.

Most of the time, we don’t vacuum for weeks till we see the pile of dust and dirt on carpets.

We should vacuum our home at regular intervals as most of the dust mites and allergens are not visible to our eyes, they get accumulated and cause health hazards like allergies or respiratory disorders.

Vacuuming broken glass pieces

The broken glass pieces pose a risk to our vacuum cleaner. They are sucked up during the vacuuming and may damage the internal machinery of the appliance.

These glass scraps can scratch up the canister or clog the hose. They may even enter the filters or damage the motor.

Ensure to clean the broken glass pieces in a traditional way by using a broom. Collect the smaller pieces from the floor using a damp paper towel.

Not cleaning before vacuuming

It may sound absurd, but you may have to clean the place a little before proceeding to vacuum. Pick up the dust and debris that are easily removable using the broom.

When you do vacuuming without dusting or cleaning beforehand, it may pick up larger debris that may hamper its efficiency.

The vacuuming is meant for picking up the small garbage from the surface that is difficult to clean by brooming. With little prior cleaning, you make way for faster and efficient vacuuming.

Conclusion

Out of ignorance, people make some common vacuuming mistakes that derail their plans for achieving impeccable cleanliness.  It leads to wastage of their time and resources.

By avoiding the above mistakes you can get the maximum out of your vacuum cleaner and hone your skills for perfect vacuuming.
