How to Clean Microwave Oven?

We put various food items in our microwave oven. Whether it’s for reheating purpose or baking purpose, we use it a lot. Sometimes it harbors the bad smell of your food. The lousy odor increases every day if you do not take any step for cleaning it. With the help of a handful of items, you can deodorize your microwave oven.

Below we have discussed a few ways of deodorizing your microwave oven to get rid of that nasty smell.

6 Ways to Deodorize Your Microwave

Soap water

One of the most effective ways to deodorize your microwave oven is to clean it thoroughly using a suitable cleaning agent mixed with water. Take a cloth, dip it in the solution that you made and wipe the interior of the microwave. It will help you remove stains and food pieces. It may not get rid of the bad odor, but it’s a start.

Baking soda and vinegar

First of all, take half a cup of water in a microwave oven-safe utensil and mix it with one tablespoon vinegar. Put the bowl inside and start heating for 5-7 minutes approx. Leave it like that for at least half an hour. After that, take out the bowl and wipe the entire microwave with a wet piece of cloth.

Take another microwave-ready bowl and put some vinegar in it. Soak a sponge in it properly and sprinkle one spoon of baking soda on the top of it. Microwave it for half a minute and then take it out. Afterward, clean the microwave thoroughly using water.

Mix the same volume of water and vinegar in a bowl. Take a cloth or sponge and dip it in the mixture. Clean the interior of the microwave and then leave half a cup of vinegar in a microwave-ready bowl overnight. Next morning take out the bowl and clean the microwave using water.

Take two tablespoons of baking soda and mix it well with one cup of water. Make sure the bowl is microwave oven-safe. Heat the solution for 5 minutes and then take it out. Wipe the microwave properly with a paper towel or a wet piece of cloth.

You can always take a new pack of baking soda, open it up, and then leave it in the microwave overnight. It isn’t as effective as the other options.

Lemon

Take a lemon and cut it in half. Pour two to three cups of water in a microwave-ready bowl and mix lemon juice in it. Heat it for 5 minutes and leave it overnight. Next day, take the bowl out and clean the microwave with soapy water. You can also do the same using orange peels. Take two to three oranges and follow the steps.

Buy some fresh lemons. Squeeze them out and mix the juice of the lemon with half a cup of water. Microwave it for 5 minutes and leave it for 2-3 hours keeping the door closed. Once you’ve done that, take the bowl out and wipe the microwave with a piece of cloth.

Coffee

It has two approaches to the removal of bad odor. The first one is, take half cup water in a microwave-ready bowl and mix three spoons of ground coffee. Microwave it for at least 15 minutes. Ensure that the water is not boiling and add more water as well as coffee grounds if needed. When you are done with the process, there will be no bad odor left.

Another approach is to mix half a cup of baking soda with half a cup of coffee grounds and put it on a plate. Keep the plate in the microwave oven overnight and make sure the door is closed. The bad odor will be long gone by the next morning.

Cloves and vanilla extract

In a microwave-safe utensil, put 4-5 teaspoons of vanilla extract and mix it well with two and a half cups of water. Microwave the solution until the water is boiled. Leave it for 30 – 40 minutes and then take it out. Take a wet cloth and wipe the microwave to get rid of the nasty smell.

Cloves absorb bad odor very effectively. Take a few cloves (about 1/4th of a standard cup) and put it into a microwave oven-safe utensil. Keep the container inside of the microwave oven overnight. You should notice visible results by the next morning.

Rubbing alcohol

Take some rubbing alcohol and put it on a dry clean cloth. Then use the cloth to wipe the entire microwave thoroughly. When finished, rinse the microwave with soapy water and let it dry (keep the door open) properly.

Conclusion

These are the best effective ways of deodorizing your microwave oven. Follow these steps carefully, and you will see amazing results. Make sure to unplug your microwave before you start cleaning it. And always wipe it with a dry cloth and let it dry before you plug it in.
