Dyson Vacuum Cleaner Maintenance

Being an owner of Dyson vacuum cleaner, it’s obvious that you take great pride in cleaning and maintaining hygiene everywhere in your vicinity.

Taking nothing away from your obsession with maintaining higher standards of cleanliness at your home and elsewhere, have you ever given a thought of cleaning your Dyson vacuum cleaner?

Your Dyson cleaner may give various signals that indicate it needs cleaning and repair. It may start making noises, giving out the dirty smell, shows loss of suction, etc.

Before you think of replacing or buying a new vacuum cleaner, you can work around the issue by cleaning and maintaining your Dyson regularly for achieving its maximum operating efficiency.

How to clean and maintain a Dyson vacuum cleaner?

You can easily clean and maintain your Dyson vacuum cleaner by following the below-mentioned steps every one or two months.

Step 1: Unplug your Dyson vacuum cleaner

The first step towards cleaning your Dyson vacuum cleaner begins by unplugging it from the power outlet.

This would avoid any risks associated with any accidental electricity mishap and allows you to enjoy a safer and convenient cleaning experience.

Step 2: Empty and clean the dust canister

Unlike other vacuum cleaners, the Dyson vacuums do not comprise bags. Instead, they have a dust canister that accumulates dust during the vacuum cleaning process.

Empty the dust canister and remove any debris within. Press the red-colored “bin release” button located next to the base for removing the outer canister shell from the main vacuum body.

Shake the dust canister thoroughly while emptying its debris into the trash. In case, you don’t find the button, refer to the manual for its exact location.

After getting rid of debris, use a damp cloth prepared from microfibers for cleaning the dust canister from inside. It will capture the remaining dust and dirt particles on to the cloth.

Do not use any detergents for cleaning the dust canister. Also, do not use water for washing the cyclones.

Use compressed air for cleaning the dust and dirt stuck in the cyclones.

Ensure to dry the dust canister completely to avoid any excess moisture and dampness.

Step 3: Remove and wash the filters

It is essential to clean the filters of your Dyson vacuum cleaners as they accumulate the dirt, dust, pollen, and microbes while filtering the clean air.

You will locate the purple-colored Dyson filters near the cyclone. Simply lift and remove them for cleaning.

Keep your filter under the running cold water from the faucet or rinse it under cold water supply for clearing any dust or debris. Now gently squeeze the water out of the filter.

Repeat the process couple of times until the water runs clear.  Do not use any detergents for cleaning the filters.

Dry the filters completely by leaving them in a warm place for at least 24 hours so that they are completely dry and ready for replacement inside the vacuum cleaner.

Step 4: Remove and clean the brush bar

During the vacuuming, the hair, debris, dust from the floors, and carpets are collected by the brush bar and over time it gets clogged around it. It results in a reduction in its cleaning efficiency.

To clean the bar you need to untangle it from the vacuum cleaner body. You need a flat head screwdriver and a pair of scissors. Use the screw to unscrew the brush bar and pull out the brush.

Begin with manually removing the large debris from the brush and then use scissors for cutting the tangled hair and other debris.

After cleaning out the visible debris, use a damp microfiber cloth for wiping out the compartment of the brush bar.

Ensure to dry it completely before fixing it back on the vacuum body.

Step 5: Clean the hose

The clogging of the hose can result in a reduction of suction power. Detach the hose using the button from the wand.

Examine the hose from inside for detecting and removing any debris. Push a mop handle through it for unclogging the hose.

Do not use any harsh chemicals for cleaning the vacuum hose. Rather use natural products like vinegar for disinfecting hose or killing germs inside.

Submerge your hose in the mixture of warm water and vinegar. Flush it out using clean water a few times.

Dry the hose completely by leaving them in a warm place for at least 24 hours so that they are completely dry and ready for reconnecting to your vacuum.

Step 6: Wipe down the vacuum body

Last but not the least; you need to wipe down the exteriors of your Dyson vacuum using a damp microfiber cloth.

Ensure to sanitize the soleplate and wheels of your vacuum using a mixture of diluted vinegar solution.

Ensure to dry your vacuum completely for at least 24 hours before operating it again.

Conclusion

To ensure the long-lasting services of your Dyson vacuum cleaner, you need to deep clean it once every 3-4 months.

Cleaning your Dyson vacuum regularly not only maintains its efficiency but also allows you to maintain higher standards of cleaning.
