Air Cooler Vs Air Conditioner: Which is better?

If you’re confused about what you should get, an air cooler or air conditioner? Then you have come to the right place. Air cooler and air conditioner both are very commonly used appliances nowadays. We use both of them for the same purpose, which is beating the scorching heat outside. Both these appliances depend on a few things, such as the climate you are living in, the temperature you want in your room, and most importantly, how much your budget is. Let’s discuss in a more detailed way to know more about it.

Both air cooler and an air conditioner is an appliance that cools the air. So let’s talk about their pros and cons, and then we shall have our answer about whether air cooler is better or air conditioner.

Air Cooler

Air cooler operates on the principle of evaporate cooling. It stores hot water and blows it through the cooling pads. It works well in low humidity areas, dry regions mostly. The price of an air cooler is comparatively much lesser than an AC. Also, it has its advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages:

Low Investment

The investment for an Air cooler is very low. It is available at pocket-friendly prices, and most of the people can afford it easily.  It does the job pretty well even after being budget-friendly.

Low Power Consumption

Most of the Air coolers are power efficient products. They usually burn a lot less electricity than any air conditioner.

Stabilizer Free

Air coolers can operate in very low voltages. The only sensitive component in an Air cooler is it’s Motor. It is made to handle a tolerable level, so a little bit of fluctuation does not matter.

Portable

This is one of the best features of an Air cooler. It is portable and takes very little space to store in a place. Also, you can carry it to any room you want to. Unlike the Air conditioner, it is not fixed in a place or room.

Environment-Friendly

Air coolers benefit the environment by not having any harmful Chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) emission. It does not affect the Ozone Layer in any way.

Fresh Quality Air

The air that comes out of any Air cooler is pure and fresh. It pulls the fresh air from the outside and delivers it to you after cooling down. The air isn’t dry at all. It has more moisture in it. Also, this fresh quality air is preferable for people who have dust allergy or asthma.

Disadvantages:

Dry Region

Air coolers don’t operate well in humid climates. That is how they are engineered to be. You need to be in a place where there is not much humidity in the climate because that is where Air Cooler will work properly and more efficiently.

Requires Water

Every Air cooler needs water to operate. Without water, an Air cooler cannot function. Water needs to be changed often. You put hot water into it, and in return, it provides you with cool, breathable fresh air.

Temperature

Firstly, you cannot control the precise temperature of the cool air in your room. Secondly, Air coolers can drop the temperature around 5 degrees maximum, not more than that. On average, it is 3-5 degrees of temperature drop.

Air Conditioner

Air Conditioner : Pros and Cons

Air conditioners use refrigeration to chill the air inside of your room. The Process from hot air to providing cool air goes through 5 stages. Which are – Evaporator, Compressor, Condenser, Expansion valve, Refrigerant.  It costs way more than any Air cooler and has it’s own benefits too.

Advantages:

Cooling Effect

An Air conditioner provides you with way more cool air than any Air cooler ever could. The temperature drop is about 10 degrees. It will spread the cool air with it’s a high-speed fan to every corner of the room and make the room chilly.

Works in Any Region

Unlike the air coolers, it does not need to be in a humidity less climate to work properly. The best part about an Air conditioner is that it can function properly in any region. Whether it is less humid or too much humidity in the air, it will cool the air thoroughly.

Control Temperature Precisely

Yes, with the remote control that comes with the Air conditioner, you can control the temperature of your room precisely. You can set the temperature as per your needs, whether it’s too chilly or not. That is completely your choice.

No Water Needed

You do not need any kind of water or anything to put into any Air conditioner to work. It works without any of these elements properly. So it is a plus point.

Disadvantages:

Expensive

An air conditioner is much more expensive compared to an Air cooler. If you plan to buy a decently featured Air conditioner, then it is going to cost you a lot.

High Power Consumption

An Air conditioner needs lots of power to run properly. They might be of Inverter technology or 5 stars rating in power saving, but still, they consume a lot of power. And automatically this increases your monthly electricity bills.

Non-Portable

You can not just move an Air conditioner from room to room whenever you feel like. It requires installation in a particular room and quite the space on your wall. Once done, it is fixed to that room only.

Unfresh Air

The cool air that comes out of air conditioners is not as fresh as the air cooler provides because An air-conditioner circulates the internal air of your room over and over again, whereas the air cooler fetches fresh air for you.

Conclusion

Both air cooler and air conditioner will serve the purpose of providing you with cool air in summer. But as we discussed it, we found some pros and cons for both of the products. Air coolers can only be used in Dry regions and not everywhere. That is something to keep in mind because air conditioners can be used anywhere in any climate. Then again, the budget factor also comes into play. Air coolers are a perfect choice if you live somewhere where the climate is less humid. But if you live somewhere where humidity levels in the air are too high, then air conditioners will work properly and will be able to provide you comfort.
